Lance Armstrong, Tour de Force – Daniel Coyle

Lance Armstrong, Tour de Force – Daniel Coyle
I found this an interesting read because it didn’t  focus on Lance as much as it did on professional cycling, the Tour, doping and all the different characters involved in the phenomenon of the Tour de France. The chapter about the East European Goomba’s was especially funny and enjoyable.

Going on safari

Recently Apple released a Beta version of their Safari web browser for Windows. I downloaded it and gave it a quick test drive to see if it’s any good. At firs glance it looked pretty good and I like the wide open screen space, you see more of the web and less toolbars. I quickly checked if any websites I’ve been working on exhibited any strange behaviour and to my delight all looked well. Next I logged in to my most visited website, gmail. Everything seemed to work fine, I quickly fired off an email to a few friend who might be interested in seeing Safari on Windows for themselves.

Later during the day I checked my mail again and got confused replies to my previous email. Apparently the email was incomplete and my friends didn’t know what I was emailing them about. It turns out my email only arrived partially and lost some text. This confirmed some reviews floating around the web that the Safari browser for Windows is still a bit buggy.

All in all the browser looked good for a first beta release and I think it will give even more people a taste of Apple’s attention to well designed software. I’m sure these bugs will be sorted out in the near future and for the moment at least I can test my websites for compatibility with Safari without having an Apple computer at hand. For everyday browsing however I recommend sticking with the browser you can trust, Firefox 2, which I think is also a very well designed piece of software. It would be difficult for me to find a reason to switch permanently from Firefox to Safari, even if it was 100% bug free.
